McKaylee, This blog is just for you. I want you to be able to see what you were like when you were a little girl. To start your story, your dad and I had been trying to have a baby for over a year and a half. I was starting to think that I wouldn't be able to have babies on my own. We had just moved to Texas and a month later I found out that I was pregnant. Your dad was away at a track meet so I decided to surprise him with the happy news. I found a bib that said, " I love my daddy" and wrapped it in a present. We went out to dinner and I have him the present. He started to cry ( yes your dad cried). We were so excited. Your dad had had a dream that we were having a girl so he knew that you were a girl.
The pregnancy wasn't too bad. I was sick for a little while. I didn't want to eat anything because everything looked, smelled and tasted gross... but I was also starving all the time. As my belly grew so did your activity. You were a very active baby while you were in my tummy. I think one of my favorite memories that I have. Your dad was talking to you and his breath on my stomach was tickling. When I started laughing my belly button popped out, which only made me laugh more.
This picture was taken a few days before I had you. I went into labor at 5:30 P.M. on the 27th of June. It was a pretty long labor. I labored at Inanna Birth Center in Denton Texas. I chose to go to a mid-wife instead of the hospital. Kathleen Steinsberger was the midwife that helped deliver you.
Kathleen helped monitor me and you to make sure that we were doing well. Labor was hard, but I did it. I pushed for 3 hours! Crazy I know! You were born at 8:33 A.M. on June 28th. You weighed in at 6 Lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long. We were both so tired by this time it took a while for you to cry. When you finally did, it was the best sound in the world. Our sweet McKaylee had finally arrived.
Your Daddy was so proud. He was such a trooper during the labor. He rubbed my back and held me when the contractions were getting really hard. He couldn't wait to cuddle you. He was already wrapped around your finger!
Now to clarify how we chose your name. Your dad will claim that he thought of the name but I have proof that he didn't. When I was in 10th grade I wrote a story about a little girl named McKaylee Ann. I had heard the name from your Aunt Stephanie and I have loved it since. We originally were going to name you Rusty but it didn't feel right. We were lying in bed and your dad suggested the name McKaylee. Now this is were he thinks he came up with the idea. I looked at him and told him that I had suggested the name to him before. Once it was decided that he could shorten your name to Kaylee we knew that we were going to name you McKaylee.
